A young woman, walks up the cold hard stone stairs that lead to a heavy bolted wooden door. She knocks on the door but no answer.
The door slowly creeps open. The young woman peeks in slightly pushing the door back a little. "hello??" she looks around curiously. "It's Elizabeth, I was sent here from the agency, I'm the new sitter you sent for. "
Elizabeth slowly takes a step inside, Out off no where a dusty old man appears.. "your bags madam".
"Oh, so sorry to let myself in like that, But i wasn't sure if you could hear me from outside. There was no door bell i could see". She felt as if she was a child in the head masters office again. She looked down at her feet and followed the man.
"Believe me Madam, I heard you ... well enough".. he noticed that Elizabeth was embarrassed with this statement and cleared his throat. "My apologies, I was in the cellar fetching the masters favorite wine to accompany dinner this evening. Now if you would follow me please."
He took Elizabeth up stairs that circled around the large entrance room, that walked across several corridors. Elizabeth had never seen a manor so antique, with such amazing and beautiful items adorning it. She felt as if every step she took was disturbing the house and at the same time, as if someone was watching her. She looked nervously over her shoulder and saw nothing that was not previously there. The butler, opened a door to her left, it had the most marvelous crystal door handle.
"Your room madam. ". He lead her in the room, placed her bags on a nearby chair. Elizabeth was breath taken by the grandest room she had ever laid eyes on. As a child every girl dreams of a room such as this, it was almost a fairy tale room, you read about, but to be actually standing there, amongst all this grace and beauty. She could not help but smile, but she could see the butler disapproved and quickly hid her pleasure with the room by clearing her throat.
"um When will I meet the master and the children?" She asked sweetly to the butler.. The butler simply replied "you may meet them tonight at dinner, otherwise arrangements will be made in the morning. Now if there is nothing else I will take my leave. If at any point you should require something, please ring this bell and the Maid will accommodate you" he pointed to a velvet rope hanging from the ceiling and with that he turned around and left the room.
Once the door was fully closed, Elizabeth couldn't help but spin around once or twice to take in the beauty of the room. She then began to unpack her things and write her first letter to her family in Wales.
